Dr Monika Molnar is active in tax law in Switzerland and abroad with a focus on value added tax (VAT), customs and excise duty (indirect types of tax). She also deals with commercial and contract law, maritime law and aviation law. Trading and blockchain are her other specialist areas. She offers comprehensive support in the area of tax and customs procedures, including administrative, legal assistance and criminal proceedings. She works in German, English and Hungarian and speaks Russian.
Education
Monika graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Szeged (Hungary, JD) and completed her studies on a scholarship at the University of Zurich (Switzerland). Her LL.M. postgraduate studies at the University of Bern (Master of Law) specialising in tax law and curating at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHDK) complete her profile She is an accredited Incoterms® 2010 trainer, awarded by ICC Germany e.V. (International Chamber of Commerce) and an interpreter, accredited by the High Court of the Canton of Zurich (Switzerland).
Professional experience
Monika worked as Deputy Director for an international auditing and consulting firm in Zurich (Switzerland) and London (UK) until 2010. Aside from her role as a tax adviser, she also acted as International Knowledge Manager for Indirect Taxation (VAT and Custom) and was the country representative for Switzerland at a Big 4 firm. She worked as a tax partner in a large corporate law firm in Zug/Zurich specialising in fintech. After this she joined a Swiss-Australian cruising industry group (Ocean and European/Asian River Cruising, Shipbuilding), first as Head of Group Legal Tax Compliance and later as General Manager. She’s also a regular speaker, lecturer in adult education and correspondent for the IBFD (International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation) in Amsterdam. In 2023, she founded MOLNAR AG, a tax consulting firm in the heart of Zurich. She has authored numerous textbooks and manuals on Swiss VAT and customs law.
